After 16 successful years of providing access to much needed healthcare, ARTDOCS is closing its doors. We’re so happy that Governor Edwards signed the new Medicaid expansion program into law. For any artists who haven’t yet switched to the new coverage, there are two ways to enroll: on the state's website, or by calling 1-888-342-6207. The call center will be staffed until 7pm on weekdays and from 8am to 4pm on Saturdays.
Over the past 16 years we held eight ARTDOCS Benefit Art Auctions to raise money for your care. The very first auction at Tipitina’s in 1999 had over 200 people and raised over $6,000. In 2000, it took place at the Jonathan Ferrara gallery had over 400 people and raised over $12,000. In 2001, the NOCCA/ Riverfront facility played host to the event and over $20,000 was raised. The 2003 benefit was held at the Scottish Rite Temple and brought in $24,800. In 2004, the auction generated $29,900. Our first auction after Katrina in 2009 was at the Hefler Warehouse and rasied $42,000. In 2011, we raised $36,700 and in 2013 our final auction totaled $28,000. That’s over $200,000 raised to help local artists receive the medical, dental and mental health services they needed! That translates to over 3,000 patient visits.
We are proud to have been the first program of its kind in the country and to have played such a critical role. The arts are an important part of the New Orleans economy and having healthy artists is key to this.
Our eternal thanks to Daughters of Charity, Family Service of Greater New Orleans and the LSU Family Practice Clinic for providing excellent care to our clients all these years. We couldn’t have done any of this without you.
Thanks as well go our spectacular board of directors: Jonathan Ferrara, Vincent Morelli, Adele Borie, Reese Johanson, and Adam Marcus, as well as our professional talent: Sarat Raman, Coleman Pratt and Vincent Booth.
